The Department of Chemical Biology (Prof. Dr. Kai Johnsson) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Position(s) for an interdisciplinary translational research project to start at the earliest convenience.

At the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, one of the 84 institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, physicists, chemists and biologists create knowledge of long-term relevance to life and basic medical sciences. YOUR TASK

The project aims to exploit a conceptually new approach to develop therapeutic antibodies targeting high-value drug targets like G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) or ion channels. It centers on creating and validating cellular assays for functional screenings of antibody candidates, including establishing systems for higher throughput antibody production. Additional projects may involve further antibody characterization, including binding kinetics (ELISA, Flow Cytometry, BLI), thermostability (DSF), aggregation propensity (SEC) or hydrophobicity (HIC). This multidisciplinary project combines modern chemical biology, molecular biological approaches, biochemical techniques and cell culture work.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate should be deeply motivated to engage in cutting-edge research with significant translational potential and must thrive in a truly multidisciplinary environment. Prior experience with relevant techniques such as molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and biochemical techniques are a prerequisite. The candidate should hold or anticipate completing a PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Immunology or a related field. Demonstrated willingness to tackle and master new challenges, confidence, ability to work both independently and within a team, meticulous attention to detail, and strong critical thinking skills are essential for success. The working language of the project group is English.

The payment is based on the TVöD guidelines. Positions are limited to two years with a possibility of extension.
