Your tasks:

The GrawLab within the Department of Medicine 5 works on the modelling and analysis of immune processes in the context of inflammation, infection and cancer. By combining various experimental and clinical data with mathematical models and data analytical methods, we aim at a mechanistic and quantitative understanding of the processes that regulate immune responses and determine disease outcome and therapy.

We have two open PhD positions (m/f/d) in the field of Computational Immunology and Mathematical Modelling. We are looking for highly motivated candidates to work at the interface of data analysis and the life sciences/immunology. You will work on the development and application of novel data analytical methods to combine multi-scale and individual cell-based models with experimental and clinical data, thereby having a specific focus on lymphocyte turnover and migration dynamics. Methods involve concepts from machine learning, complex dynamical systems, high-dimensional data analysis and probability/statistics. Strong quantitative skills and mathematical knowledge are required. The work is embedded within a stimulating research environment involving the interaction with experts from machine learning, data analysis and modelling, as well as experimental and clinical collaboration partners.

Essential experience/ qualifications:

  • Applicants should hold a MSc degree or PhD (for PostDoc) in computational biology, mathematics, (bio-)medical sciences, (bio-)physics, data science or other relevant disciplines
  • Strong quantitative and mathematical background is desired
  • High motivation and ability for interdisciplinary and collaborative work, working at the interface between the life sciences and analytical methods
  • Good programming skills in R, Python and/or C++
    Proficiency in English

We offer:

  • Intended pay grade depending on qualifications and personal requierements according to TV-L E13
  • The position is part-time (65%)

  • The application deadline is 31.05.2024
  • Notes for applicants (f/m/d) ( https://www.karriere.uk-erlangen.de/bewerbung/hinweise-fuer-bewerbende/ )
  • An interesting position within a highly relevant and cutting edge topic
  • A stimulating research environment and team
  • A structured educational PhD program (Life@FAU)
  • A thorough and qualified introduction and support
