PhD Position – Cancer Research

Full- or part time | temporary contract (24 months) | Klinik und Poliklinik für Nuklearmedizin

Project Area:

In recent years, small molecules tethered to radioactive isotopes proved promising in the diagnosis and treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Some of these so-called radiopharmaceuticals already received regulatory approval and thus have drawn the interest of pharmaceutical industry and nuclear medicine community. In this PhD project, a novel class of radiopharmaceuticals will be synthesized and evaluated for targeted alpha therapy of prostate cancer. The project will be carried out at the Department and Clinical Research Facility for Nuclear Medicine lead by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Weber.

Your responsibilities:

  • Synthesis of novel drug molecules for application in diagnostic and therapeutic settings in nuclear medicine
  • Development of synthetic procedures for small organic molecules and solid-phase peptide synthesis
  • Optimization of radiolabeling procedures using radioisotopes for imaging and therapy
  • Evaluation and Characterization of drug molecules in cell assays and animal models

Your profile:

  • Master of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields
  • Fundamental knowledge in Organic Chemistry and peptide synthesis
  • Experience in working with radioactive substances is a plus
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
