The junior professorship in Computational Philology and Data Science of the Languages of the Ancient World focuses on the exploration of texts and languages written in cuneiform or indigenous Egyptian writing systems. Situated within the Department of History and Cultural Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, it bridges the Institutes of Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Egyptology with a Digital Humanities' approach to the sources and materials. Distinguished by its emphasis on computational methods, the professorship oversees the interdisciplinary master's program called Digital Studies of Ancient Texts (M.A. DISTANT), from which a portion of the responsibilities for the student assistant position are derived.

Job description:
- Conducting tutorials accompanying the Python courses of the M.A. degree program "Digital Studies of Ancient Texts"

- General support of the Junior Professorship in teaching and research, e. g. organizing events, creating teaching materials, writing scripts (in Python)
- Mentoring for students enrolled in M.A. DISTANT, i. e. advising of students regarding the German university system and studies at Freie Universität Berlin

Desirable:
- Advanced Python skills in the field of Digital Humanities and/or Natural Language Processing

- Knowledge of one ancient language either from Egypt or West Asia (Ancient Near East)
- Basic knowledge in working with LaTeX
- Proficiency in written and spoken German and English at a level of at least B2

- Scientific writing literacy
